Background and Expertise
Michael Tomasz, formerly with IBM, began his real estate career in 1974 with what is now known as Paine Wetzel. In 1976 Mr. Tomasz joined CB Commercial (now CB Richard Ellis). He joined the Shidler Group in 1986 as managing partner of the Chicago office, where he helped acquire, finance, lease, manage and dispose of more than $270 million of commercial property.
In 1994, Mr. Tomasz was a founder of First Industrial Realty Trust. He served as its president and chief executive officer from 1994 to 1998. Under his leadership, the company grew from an initial total capitalization of $750 million to approaching $4 billion, becoming one of the largest owners/operators of industrial property in the U.S.
Also under his leadership, in the years from 1995 through 1997, First Industrial provided investors a 140% total return—the best performance of all dedicated industrial property real estate investment trusts during that time period.
In April 2001, William Kritt & Co. was purchased by Michael Tomasz and Harvey Camins, two of Chicago real estate’s most distinguished names, to later be known as Camins Tomasz Kritt.
